Light that hits water flattens into horizontal waves — a hard, white sheen that sits on the surface like foil. Your eyes fight it all day: squinting, tearing, tiring. An Azur® Polarized lens filters precisely that horizontal light, removing up to 90% of the glare before it reaches your eye.
The surface opens up
The first time you wear a good polarized lens on the water, the effect is almost theatrical. The sheen disappears and the water becomes transparent: you read the wind on the surface, the structure below it, the line between deep and shallow. Sailors see the gust arriving. Anglers see the fish before the fish sees them. And your eyes, at the end of the day, are simply not tired.
Snow works the same way
Bright sun on snow behaves like water: an intense, reflected glare. On blue-sky days on the slopes, Azur® Polarized is king. Only in flat, grey light does the logic reverse — there you want contrast and terrain definition, which is DriveVision® Amber territory.
One honest caveat
Polarization has one side effect: it can dim LCD screens viewed at an angle — a chartplotter, a fishfinder, your phone. Most marine displays are bright enough that a slight tilt of the head solves it. But it is the reason we never put polarization in a driving lens: behind the wheel, instruments come first.
Grey day, no glare?
An overcast day without reflection calls for something softer. Soleil® Elysian Green — the classic grey-green tint — keeps colours true and calms the light without killing it. Many of our sailing customers keep both aboard: Azur® for the glare, Elysian Green for the grey.
Frequently asked questions
Does polarization replace UV protection? No — they are separate things. Every Himalayan lens is UV400 regardless of tint, blocking 100% of UVA and UVB.
Is polarized worth it for fishing? More than for anyone else: you look through the reflection instead of at it, and spot structure and fish that are invisible to the naked eye.
Why not wear Azur® in the car as well? Because polarization dims dashboards and navigation screens. For the road we built DriveVision® — non-polarized, so instruments stay readable.
